Til Temir- Kongra Star continues to organize activities on women’s freedom and rights in North and East Syria. The Education Committee of Kongra Star has started a 10-day educational circuit for women living in the foothills of Mount Kizwan, also known as Mount Abdulaziz, located in the southwestern part of Hasakah, northeastern Syria. The aim of the education circuit called “Women Martyrs of the Tishreen Dam” is to give information about the importance of education, women's freedom, history and rights.
‘Education is essential to correct the mistakes’
“Education is essential to correct the mistakes in society,” said Marwa Ehmed, one of the women attending the circuit. “Education is important to stand against oppression and persecution. We combat against child marriage, prostitution and polygamy. We must raise awareness of our society against them. Those who act according to the patriarchal mindset and their own interest pose a risk to the future. I have attended this educational circuit to learn more about the reality and nature of women.”
‘Parents should be educated to build a democratic society’
“Education is a must not only for the employees of organizations but also all individuals in society,” Ebla El-Ezo, another woman attending the educational circuit. “Our society needs education and science. Educated people are very different from uneducated people. Parents should be educated to build a democratic society.”
‘A society cannot be free unless the women are free’
Ebla El-Ezo expressed her hope for social change and an end to the oppression of women. “Our demand is the end of the oppression in society. A society cannot be free unless the women are free. We have got to know ourselves and our essence thanks to the thoughts and philosophy of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan). Men should also be educated to eliminate the patriarchal mindset.”
