Sudan-The conflict that started in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan on April 15, 2023 continues. The intensified conflict causes humanitarian crises and human rights violations in the country. Women and children are particularly affected by the war in the country, facing crimes against humanity such as harassment, rape and massacres. In addition, the war has displaced thousands in the country.

Recently, different scenarios have been discussed to end the war and the future of the country. One of these scenarios is to divide Sudan among different ethnic groups and regional groups through the intervention of international powers. However, such a scenario may lead to further conflict and humanitarian crisis in the country and if conflict continues, it will cause irreversible destruction in the country. The most hopeful scenario for people in the country right now is a negotiation; however, the intensified attacks and clashes make such a scenario impossible for now.

“Any international intervention under Chapter VII will make the country a stage for jihadist groups,” journalist Rawya Mohamed Osman told NuJINHA. “Dividing Sudan will leave the people of Sudan without an identity and without a homeland, which leads to more displacement, disease and hunger. A negotiation table can bring an agreement between the two parties to the conflict, silencing the sound of the gun and rebuilding peace.”

‘Protect civilians’

Rawya Mohamed Osman called on UN-backed human rights organizations to form an “independent and impartial force” to “protect civilians and bring both parties to account for the war crimes committed by them.”

‘Women are most affected by the war’

“Women are most affected by the war,” said activist Salma Awad Fadil. “The war must end so that Sudan can be free again and rebuild destroyed cities.

“If the war ends through negotiations between the two parties, it will be a victory to rebuild Sudan based on peace,” said Ishraqa Sayed Mahmoud, head of the Leadership Committee of the Unionist Democratic Party. “If the Sudanese Armed Forces win, we will need to establish social peace and address many issues left behind by the war.”

The people in Sudan demand an end of the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan no matter what the solution is.
