News Center- Tunisian President Kays Said announced a month-long curfew yesterday after he dismissed Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.

The new restrictions prohibit the movement of people between cities outside times of curfew, except for basic needs or urgent health reasons. The nationwide curfew will be imposed from 7 pm to 6 am and more than three people are banned from gathering in public places.

New restrictions and curfew raise concerns

The imposed curfew and new restrictions in the country raise concerns all around the world. The European Union urged all political actors in Tunisia to respect the country’s constitution and avoid violence. “We call on all Tunisian actors to respect the Constitution, its institutions, and the rule of law. We also call on them to remain calm and to avoid any resort to violence in order to preserve the stability of the country,” a spokesperson for the European Commission said.

Speaking from Washington DC, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the Biden administration was “concerned about the developments in Tunisia”.
