Libyan content creator Khansa Mujahid was shot dead on Friday evening, November 21, after unidentified gunmen opened fire while she was inside her car in the Al-Sarraj area, west of the capital, Tripoli.
Circulating videos on social media showed bullet impacts on the car’s windows, while the victim appeared on the ground after succumbing to her injuries. The motives behind the crime and the identity of those responsible remain unknown, in an incident that has caused widespread shock among Libyans.
An eyewitness reported that Khnasa Mujahid attempted to exit her car and flee at the start of the shooting, but she was directly targeted. The witness added that the car remained running for a long time after her death, reflecting the tragic details of the crime.
Khansa Mujahid was considered one of the most prominent figures on social media, especially among women. She was known for her interest in fashion and beauty and owned a business selling women’s clothing in addition to a beauty salon.
The assassination of Khnasa Mujahid sparked widespread shock and condemnation in Libya. Social media users expressed anger and concern over the recurrence of crimes targeting female activists, often without revealing or holding the perpetrators accountable. The case dominated digital discussions, with calls to stop attacks and ensure the protection of women working in public fields.
The National Human Rights Institution indicated that the assassination of Khnasa Mujahid may have been aimed at her husband, Muadh Al-Manfoukh, a member of the Political Dialogue Committee, as he usually drives the targeted car. The institution accused lawless elements affiliated with the General Security Directorate of involvement in the crime.
The institution demanded a full investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Emad Trablesi instructed security forces to launch an urgent investigation by forming a specialized team and utilizing all available resources to apprehend those involved and refer them to the judiciary.
