Commemorative ceremony in Shengal for those who lost their lives in genocide
Last night, thousands of Shengal’s people held a commemorative ceremony for those who lost their lives seven years ago. After the ceremony, the people visited the mass graves in Gir Zerek, Til Ezer and Siba Şex Xidir.
Shengal- There are 80 mass graves containing bodies of thousands of Yazidis in Shengal. The exhumation of 12 mass graves is going on. Yazidis visit the mass graves on August 3 to commemorate those who lost their lives in the genocide. Last night, a commemorative ceremony was held by the Committee of Martyrs in Shengal. Thousands of the people of Shengal, members of the TAJÊ (Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement) and PADE, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Feleknas Uca and Semra Güzel attended the ceremony. A delegation consists of the members of the REJAK also attended the ceremony. The people lighted a candle for those who lost their lives.
“The edict is like the Halabja massacre and Anfal massacre for us”
The people visited the mass graves to commemorate those who lost their lives in the genocide. “The genocide should be felt not only in Shengal but also in Başurê Kurdistan (Southern Kurdistan). Those who caused the genocide are still ruling in Başurê Kurdistan. Everything must be done so that they will stand trial. The edict (genocide) is like the Halabja massacre and Anfal massacre for us,” said Destina Germiyani, the spokesperson of the REJAK.

In the speeches, people stated that they will never forget those who lost their lives in the genocide. The people visited all mass graves located in Gir Zerek, Til Ezer, and Siba Şex Xidir and lighted a candle.
The bodies should be exhumed from the mass graves
There are 80 mass graves containing bodies of thousands of Yazidis in Shengal. The bodies of Yazidis were exhumed from 12 mass graves until now. The fate of 700 people from the Girzerek village of Shengal is still unknown. There are two mass graves in the village while there are nine mass graves in the Til Ezer village, where 500 people are missing. In the Siba Şêx Xidir village, 450 villagers are still missing and there are five mass graves in the village. The people demanded the bodies be exhumed from the mass graves.
