Co-mayor of Dersim released from prison

Birsen Orhan, the elected co-mayor of Dersim, has been released from prison after her lawyers objected to her arrest in court.

News Center- Birsen Orhan, the co-mayor of Dersim, who was dismissed by the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs on November 22, 2024, has been released from prison.

On November 24, Birsen Orhan was detained but then released under judicial control, being placed under house arrest. A detention warrant was issued against her on charges of “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “resisting officials to prevent them from performing their duty”. On November 30, she was sent to prison at the Tunceli Courthouse on the same charges.

Birsen Orhan was released from prison on Tuesday under judicial control with a ban on travelling abroad after her lawyers objected to her arrest in court.
