Co-mayor Filiz Buluttekin sentenced to 7 years, 6 months in prison

Diyarbakır’ Sur Municipality Co-mayor Filiz Buluttekin, who was removed from her office, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.
Amed - Diyarbakır’ Sur Municipality elected-Co-mayor Filiz Buluttekin was removed from her by the Interior Ministry after an investigation was opened against her and a trustee was appointed to the municipality as mayor. Filiz Buluttekin has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison by Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court.
“The events she participated in are allowed events”
During the final hearing, Filiz Buluttekin’s lawyer Suzan Akipa said, “We think that this case was opened in order to appoint a trustee instead of her. It is said that my client attended funerals and events to follow the calls, but the calls haven’t been mentioned in the file. All events she participated in were allowed by the governor. My client is a women’s rights defender. The events mentioned in the indictment are about violence against women. I demand my client’s acquittal.”
The court has sentenced Filiz Buluttekin to seven years and six months in prison allegedly, “being a member of a (terrorist) organization”.
