News Center- Solidarity Is Global Institute (SIGI), a non-governmental organization based in Jordan, has released a report on child marriage and unemployment among women rates in Jordan. “We conducted a survey. About 266 women from different countries participated in this survey. 50.4% of Syrian girls between the ages of 15-27 and 49.6 percent of Jordanian girls were married under the age of 18 or under 18,” says SIGI’s report.

The rate is slowly decreasing

The labor force participation rate in the country reached 34.3 percent in 2019, according to the report. “14 percent of people who participated in the labor force were women. The highest percentage of women aged between 30 and 39 in the labor force was 35.9 percent, but then this rate started to decrease. The rate of women aged between 45 and 49 in the labor force has decreased to 10%.

7,964 girls became the victims of child marriage in 2020

According to the report, 7,964 girls became the victims of child marriage. The report announces that the child marriage rate in the country increased by 1.2 percent in 2020, compared to 2019. “2,117 girls (26.5 percent) were married at the age between 15 and 16, 2,570 girls were at the age between16 and 17 years old (32.4 percent) and 3,277 girls were at the age between 17 and 18 (41.1 percent).”
