CFWIJ: End legal harassment against journalists!

Journalists are still under intense legal harassment. Journalist Melis Alphan, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association Co-chair Dicle Müftüoğlu and journalist Pınar Gayıp are among those included in the list of undesirable journalists. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands Turkish authorities to end legal harassment against journalists.
News Center- Three female journalists faced pressure in 24 hours in Turkey. Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) Co-chair and MA editor Dicle Müftüoğlu, allegations of "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization", citing the news she shared on her social media accounts. Journalist Melis Alphan was charged with spreading terrorist propaganda for the photo she shared on social media during the Newroz (Spring Festival) held in Diyarbakır in 2015 and she has faced seven years and five months prison sentence. Etkin News Agency (ETHA) Pınar Gayıp was taken into custody in the morning.
The Coalition For Women In Journalism made a statement today and the coalition demands Turkish authorities to end legal harassment against journalists.  In the statement, the coalition says, “Since the beginning of 2021 CFWIJ documented at least one case each day about the attacks against women journalists in Turkey. We follow the attempts to silence the press with great concern. We believe that the judicial persecution of journalists for their social media posts is a new method to censor press freedom. We call on Turkish authorities to respect the freedom of expression and stop harassing and targeting journalists for their work.”
