Call on international organizations against rights violations in Afrin

Women are abducted in Afrin by Turkey-backed groups. A pregnant woman named Nemet Behçet Şêxo was tortured to death by Turkey-backed groups. Emine Mele Hesen, the executive of the Women's Council in Afrin, NE Syria, called on international organizations to protect women in Afrin.

Shehba- Citizens living in the areas controlled by the Turkish army and Turkey-backed groups have faced rights violations. They have been subjected to torture and abduction. The number of abducted women is increasing every day. A pregnant woman named Nemet Behçet Şêxo was reportedly tortured to death by Turkey-backed groups in the Qûpê village of Afrin’s Reco district.

“She was tortured to death in custody”

Nemet Behçet and her husband were reportedly taken to Emir Gubari Prison after being detained in the city center of Afrin by Turkey-backed groups. According to the received reports from Afrin, Nemet Behçet and her husband were held responsible for the latest explosion in Afrin and subjected to torture for six hours in custody. Nemet Behçet Şêxo was reportedly tortured to death while there is no news about her husband Xelil Nesan.

No news from abducted women

Meanwhile, two women named Mizgin (28) and Zozan (33) were reportedly abducted in the Birimche village of Afrin’s Mabeta district. No one has received any news from them since their abduction. Emine Mele Hesen, the executive of the Women's Council in Afrin, NE Syria, spoke to our news agency about the abduction of women in Afrin.

Emine Mele Hesen stated that Afrin has been under the control of the Turkish army and Turkey-backed groups for four years. “The citizens of Afrin have been subjected to torture, pressure, and rape. The Turkish state bears hostility against civilians, particularly against women. The situation in Afrin also shows the patriarchal and sovereign mentality of the Turkish state. Turkey tries to change the demographic structure of Afrin. Students have been forced to learn Turkish. The policy and aim of the Turkish state are to annihilate the Kurdish people. Turkish army and Turkey-backed groups arrest and imprison women for various reasons. Women are subjected to torture and rape in prisons. The latest incident against women occurred and a pregnant woman was tortured to death.”

Call on international organizations

 Addressing international organizations, Emine Mele Hesen also said, “Protect women living in occupied areas and stop the torture against them. What the Turkish army and Turkey-backed groups are doing and torture against women must be revealed. A solution must be found for what the Turkish army and Turkey-backed groups have done in these areas. A delegation should be sent to these areas to investigate the incidents.”
