Call from Karama Square: Let's take to the streets for our rights
The women of Sweida, who have been holding protests at the Karama Square of Sweida, call on all women in Syria to strengthen their solidarity by taking to the streets “for our rights”.
Sweida- The peaceful protests erupted in the Druze majority city of Sweida over the high inflation rate and deteriorating economic situation in Syria on August 17, 2023 continue on their second months. The people gathered at Karama Square demand the change of the Syrian government and a democratic system.
Asima Al-Nabwani, one of the women who joined yesterday’s protest, said, “We have gathered here because our children have to go abroad due to deteriorating economic situation and because there are many people held in Syrian government’s prisons. The arrested people should be released. Our main demand is to have a life with dignity. We call on all women in Syria to support the protests, to demand their rights.”
‘We take to the streets to demand our rights’
Mathalia Abbud, another protester, said, “We have taken to the streets to demand the change of the regime due to the humiliation and poverty that the Syrian people have been experiencing for years. We will keep holding protests in solidarity.”
