News Center- Andrea Wolf Institute of Jineolojî Academy has released a statement regarding the recent Turkish attacks on North and East Syria. “Today, the Turkish strike on the Simav Printing House in Qamishlo killed Berivan and five other employees. Ala El Sebawi was killed in the Turkish strike on a public bakery. Berivan and Ala were two young women from Rojava, who struggled to build another life for themselves,” the statement said.

Five people named Riyad Hemo, Hisên Ehmed, Rênas Hisên, Ferhan Xelef and Ferhan Temê also have been killed and many more have been injured in the Turkish attacks on North and East Syria, according to the statement.

‘Olive trees are sacred for the people of Afrin’

An olive oil production cooperative in Amuda, a town of Hasakah Canton, was also targeted by the Turkish state. “We remember a woman of Afrin, who said, ‘Working for production of olive oil makes me feel closer to Afrin’. For the people of Afrin, the olive trees are sacred, considered a source of life. Today, their olives are being cut down by the Turkish mercenaries. Whenever Turkish mercenaries cut down an olive tree, the people of Afrin say that they cut down one of us,” the statement said.

Turkish war planes also targeted the Karama Hall in Amude. Recalling the congress of Kongra Star, an umbrella organization of women’s organizations in North and East Syria, the statement said, “We remember the congress of the Kongra Star held in the Karama Hall to celebrate the women’s revolution. Women from all ages participated in the congress. The Karama Hall is a well-known gathering space for public meetings. Turkey also targeted a dialysis center in Qamishlo.”

The Turkish state has been intensifying its attacks on North and East Syria since December 23, 2023. “Right now, civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, health centers, power and water stations, across Rojava has been targeted by the Turkish state. Meanwhile, the people of Rojava make great efforts to organize themselves based on the principles of the democratic, ecological paradigm and women’s freedom. They have rebuilt their lives. They have built factories, hospitals, health centers and workshops and established cooperatives, printing houses. To supply energy to the people, They have built gas stations. They have formed communes, councils, cooperatives and academies to govern themselves. However, the most recent achievements of the Kurdish freedom movement are threatened by the Turkish fascist state.”

The statement also mentioned the Social Contract approved by the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on December 13, 2023. “On December 19, Kurdish parties won the majority of the seats in the local elections in Kirkuk, Iraq. In addition, the guerillas carried out successful actions against the occupying Turkish military in the mountains of southern Kurdistan (Iraq). The Turkish state has intensified its attacks on North and East Syria because it aims to destroy these achievements. This new wave of attacks targets critical civilian infrastructure. People of Rojava are threatened with water, fuel and electricity shortages.”

‘We call on everyone to resist’

“We call for a united struggle against the machinery of war trying to occupy our region, commit a genocide against the people of Rojava. The peoples of Rojava/North-East Syria are determined to build free life. We call on everybody to resist and organize themselves against fascism, occupation and patriarchy – and to build up a free life in dignity!”
