News Center-The Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) has released it “August 2021 Rights Violations Against Journalists Report.” The association issued a written statement for its report. “In Turkey, the crackdown on journalists and press continued in August as well. The journalists responsible for reporting the truths were tried to be silenced,” underlines the association in the statement.

“Detentions become routine practices”

Freedom of press an expression was disregarded in August again, the statement says, “Detentions, prevention on reporting, attacks, and investigations have become routine practices against journalists in Turkey.

The statement includes the data of the Freedom of Expression Association's DisabledWeb 2020 report, “According to the report, as of the end of 2020, 467,011 websites, 150,000 URL addresses, 7,500 Twitter accounts, 50,000 tweets, 12,000 YouTube videos, 8,000 Facebook and 6,800 Instagram contents were blocked in Turkey. These figures reveal how the situation we are in is terrible.

“We will keep reporting the truths”

“But everyone should know very well that brave journalists will continue to report, write and show the truths,” says the association in the statement and shares the data of the rights violations against journalists in August;

Five journalists were detained

A journalist died

Eight journalists were subjected to attacks

Journalists were prevented while covering nine incidents

Investigations opened against eight journalists

Lawsuits opened against three journalists

221 news websites were blocked to access

51 journalists were fired

Press card of a journalist was canceled

63 journalists are behind bars (as of September 2).
