Amina Hussein dedicates her award to women of Rojava

Kurdish journalist and translator Amina Hussein receives ÀNIMA AWARD 2021 in Catalonia. She dedicates her award to all women of Rojava. “I want to protect the values of the Revolution in Rojava,” she said.

Qamishlo - The women's revolution, Revolution in Rojava, continues to make an overwhelming impression not only in Kurdistan but also all around the world. Since the beginning of the revolution, women have pioneered their society and defended their lands. Kurdish women living abroad have made great efforts to show the world the reality of the women's revolution and the Democratic Autonomous Administration system. Journalist and translator Amina Hussein (34) is one of these women. Born in Qamishlo, NE Syria, Amina Hussein has been living in the Catalonia region, northeastern Spain, for 16 years. She has been awarded the ÀNIMA AWARD 2021 by the Catalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her valuable works and articles about Kurdish women. She dedicates her award to all women of Rojava. We spoke to Amina Hussein about her works.

She learned two languages

Stating that she started her master's degree in international relations after graduating from the Department of Journalism and Communication, Anima Hussein said, “I moved to Barcelona in 2006. There are two official languages in Spain and I learned these two languages to have an easy life. The Catalans began to respect the Kurdish people and Kurdish women, especially after the revolution in Rojava Kurdistan. We also can say that they support the Kurdish people.”

She dedicates her award to women

Noting that she dedicates her award to all women of Rojava, Amina Hussein said, “I began to write articles about the women of Rojava after the revolution. I also wrote articles about the martyrs who sacrificed their lives. I wrote articles in Catalan and Spanish. I post my articles on my social media account. I received this award for my efforts. I dedicated the award to all women of Rojava. I wanted to go to Rojava to give this award to a women’s organization but I couldn’t find a way to go there.”

“I want to be a part of the revolution with my articles”

Speaking about the changes in the people of Catalonia after the Revolution in Rojava, Anima Hussein stated that the ban on child marriage issued by the Autonomous Administration has attracted attention in Catalonia and in Europe. Stating that she wanted to be a part of the Revolution in Rojava but she was abroad, Anima Hussein said “I didn’t take up arms but I tried to be a part of it with my articles. Writing about the reality of the women's revolution and making it heard in European countries is my duty. My aim is to make the important role of Kurdish women heard all around the world. After receiving the award, I feel that my burden is heavier, my responsibilities increase.”

New projects

Stating that she will carry out many projects soon, Amine Hussein said, “We are ready for new projects. But we cannot share the details of the projects now because we are still working on them. I want to do more for Rojava and Kurdish women. We want to support them.”
