Hasakah- 44 people, including 16 women, have been killed in the al-Hol camp in a year, according to the Internal Security Forces. On August 25, the General Command of Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria announced the launch of the second phase of the “Humanitarian and Security Operation” in al-Hol camp to pursue the ISIS cells with the support of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The second phase of the operation has entered its eighth day.

NuJINHA spoke to Nalîn Ebdilqadir, a member of the Women's Asayish Forces in Cizîrê Region, about the ongoing operation launched against ISIS members in the camp.

125 ISIS members have been arrested

“Since the beginning of the operation, about 125 suspected ISIS members have been arrested and the investigation against them continues. About 116 tents used by ISIS members as training centers to impose their ideology on children have been discovered and removed. Many tunnels used by ISIS members to hide their weapons and go out of the camp have been discovered. Many sharp objects used by them to kill civilians in the camp have been seized,” Nalîn Ebdilqadir said.

11 ISIS members were arrested during the first phase of the operation”

Stating that the Internal Security Forces have carried out searches in the cleaned sections of the camp, Nalîn Ebdilqadir said, “Special operations are carried out in the sections after the investigation and searches are completed. During the first phase of the operation, 11 ISIS members were arrested. Meanwhile, the investigation launched against six people continues.”

Women play an important role in the operation

Talking about the role of women in the operation, Nalîn Ebdilqadir said, “Women play an important role in the operation. They keep watch around the camp and are involved in tent searches. Although there are security forces in the camp, women are still killed. We aim to clear the camp of ISIS members and cells and build an environment for women to have a safe life.”

Girls wear black clothes

Underling that ISIS tries to impose its mentality on children living in the camp, Nalîn Ebdilqadir said, “A dangerous generation is growing up and the future is getting darker. The girls living in the camp wear black clothes; only their eyes are seen. Their clothes show how they are affected by the mentality of ISIS. Whenever we make victory signs, the children make ISIS signs in response.”

“Every country must repatriate its citizens”

Nalîn Ebdilqadir told us that they want to turn the camp into a safe place. “Today, the al-Hol camp poses a threat not only to North and East Syria, but also to the whole world. The seized documents show that these ISIS families have relations with other countries. Every country must repatriate its citizens.”
