AKP’s defense: Homosexuality was intended to be normalized

Presidency's Directorate of Communications has made a written statement and defended Turkey’s withdrawal from Istanbul Convention. The statement reads, “Initially Istanbul Convention aimed to promote the strengthening of women's rights, but it was manipulated by a segment intended to normalize homosexuality, which is incompatible with Turkey's social and family values. The decision to withdraw from the convention in Turkey is based on this reason.”

News Center- Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications has made a written statement about the withdrawal from Istanbul Convention by a Presidential decree.

The directorate claims in the statement that Turkey is not the only country having serious concerns about the convention and that the withdrawal doesn’t mean “compromising to protect women”. The directorate notes in the statement that they will not allow particularly, “domestic violence”.

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications shows the reason for the withdrawal from the conventions as follows; “Initially Istanbul Convention aimed to promote the strengthening of women's rights, but it was manipulated by a segment intended to normalize homosexuality, which is incompatible with Turkey's social and family values. The decision to withdraw from the convention in Turkey is based on this reason.”
