Aid supplies sent for earthquake survivors in Cindires given to armed groups

The aid supplies sent for earthquake survivors in the Cindires district of Afrin have been reportedly given to armed groups, instead of civilians.

Shahba- The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes that struck Turkey, Kurdistan and Syria on February 6, 2023 have caused destruction in many cities in Turkey, Kurdistan and Syria. The Cindirês district of Afrin, which was occupied by the Turkish state, is also one of the places where the effects of the earthquake were felt the most.

The earthquakes kill more than 650

 

In Cindires, the earthquakes have killed more than 650 people and destroyed more than 257. The earthquake death toll keeps rising in the district. According to local people, there are still many people in rubble.

According to social media posts, aid supplies sent for the earthquake survivors in the district are stolen by Turkey-backed armed groups.

‘We will never forget what we experienced’

Necmiyê Neso has lost 14 members of her family in the earthquakes. “My son, his wife and his children lost their lives in a collapsed building. They left us without saying goodbye to us. We will never forget them. They struggled for their lives in the collapsed building for four days. Only my son was pulled from the rubble alive; however, he lost his life at hospital. We will never forget what we experienced. Four innocent children lost their lives. I have also lost my brother, his wife and his children. My sister’s son and my brother's daughter also died,” Necmiyê Neso told NuJINHA.

 ’12 members of my family lost their lives’

Leyla Mihemed Nesan has lost 12 members of her family in the earthquakes. In an interview with NuJINHA, she said, “Our house in Cindirês collapsed. We cannot live here anymore because almost all buildings in the district collapsed,” Leyla Mihemed Nesan said that there are still people in the rubble, adding “They still wait for being rescued. Our relatives in Cinderes tell us that they have not received any aid yet. The aid supplies sent for us are given to armed groups and Arab people. The Turkey-backed factions keep committing crimes."
