Tunisia- As Tunisian women continue to experience high levels of violence, Tunisian society continues to remain silent against the phenomenon of violence.

Speaking at a meeting held in Tunisia as part of the 16 Days Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, Moufida Abbasi, the president of the Association of Tunisian Women for Research and Development (AFTURD) underlined that the AFTURD has decided to address the issue of violence against girls and boys who are often vulnerable to harassment in various places such as at schools, homes, training centers and on the streets.

“Silence always reigns when the issue of violence against girls is raised,” she said, adding, “There is no serious approach to solving this problem despite their critical age.” She criticized the lack of specific programs and strategies on violence against girls and said, “The phenomenon of violence against girls is still under-reported in Tunisian society and requires specific prevention strategies and programs.”
