Kabul- Women continue to resist the Taliban’s new restrictions on them since the Taliban militants took control of Afghanistan on August 15. Women have been banned from sports, making music, going to school and the building of the Women's Affairs Ministry was closed down by the Taliban. Afghan women have held protests, marches and launched campaigns to take a breath.

Nesimeh Resa, an Afghan activist, spoke to our news agency about protests, marches and campaigns of Afghan women in the country. “The lives of most women have been changed since the Taliban take over on August 15,” Nesimeh Resa said they have launched many campaigns in Afghanistan and many countries, “We shouted slogans to reveal the power of women during our protests and marches. And we shouted ‘female doctors, journalists, engineers, artists, athletes can govern their countries and take part in decision-making positions in their countries.’ We also said that a society cannot improve without women, and we will keep shouting these.”

“One hundred percent, we will win”

Nesimeh Resa talked about their slogan, “One hundred percent, we will win” and she said, “Our struggle is women’s struggle for freedom. We will definitely win, if we struggle, fight.”

“Women have to take to the streets”

Reyhaneh Talaş, one of the civil society activists, said women have to take to the streets more actively, “We aim to make Afghan women’s voices heard all around the world.”

Not including women in the government is unacceptable, Reyhaneh Talaş said, “We already knew that dark days are coming for us when the Taliban announced the new cabinet, when they said they would not give any rights to women, when they separated female and male students by curtains in classes, when women were told they should go home. We have to raise our voices before we face darker days.”

“We will protest until we win”

Reyhaneh Talaş told us they, as Afghan women, will keep protesting, launching campaigns until they gain their rights again, “We will keep struggling, protesting until we win.”
