Activist Somayeh Kargar remains in jail because she cannot afford to pay high bail
The Iranian court has ruled the temporary release of activist Somayeh Kargar on 500 million Iranian Toman bail ($20.000) but the activist cannot go out of jail because she cannot afford to pay the high bail.
Tehran – Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) raided the house of Somayeh Kargar, a Kurdish and women’s rights activist, on October 16, 2020. and arrested her. Her computer and mobile phone were confiscated by the Iranian police. After being questioned and tortured at Evin Prison for four months, she was transferred to Qarchak Prison in February 2021.

Although the Evin Prison Prosecutor's Office had previously informed her family that she had been arrested for cybercrime, there are no official charges against her. The activist has reportedly lost weight and suffered from stomach diseases.
