Abdullah Öcalan: A new stage is needed

“Democratic society, peace, and integration are the three key concepts of the process,” Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan said during the meeting with the Imrali Delegation of the DEM Party on Thursday.

News Center- The Imrali delegation from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) met with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali on Thursday.

The delegation, consisting of Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar and Faik Özgür Erol, has issued a written statement on the meeting.  The statement is as follows:

“On 28 August 2025, we held a three-hour meeting with Mr. Öcalan on Imrali Island. Mr. Öcalan was in very good health and in high spirits.

During the meeting, he made a comprehensive assessment of the stages that the Peace and Democratic Society Process has gone through and the current point reached. He said that the problem we face has become gangrenous, and requires special surgical intervention and that the process was carried forward with this sensitivity. He said, ‘Our goal was to do everything possible to end a painful process.’

He stated that democratic society, peace, and integration are the three key concepts of this process, and that only on this basis can a result be achieved. He highlighted the necessity of entering a new stage where steps are urgently taken in all dimensions.

Mr. Öcalan stated that his preference has always been for integration based on a democratic republic and democratic society; understanding and embracing this strategic move would be a gain for all of us and for all of Türkiye.

The approaches in some political and media circles that either oversimplify or ignore this preference are clearly damaging to the process.

On this occasion, he once again expressed his strong belief in eternal friendship and peace among peoples.

With our greetings and respect

DEM Party Imrali Delegation”
