“Çarşema Serê Nîsanê” celebrations in Shahba
Yazidis’ Union held “Çarşema Serê Nîsanê” celebrations in Shahba. The occupation of Afrin and attacks on the Kurdistan Region were condemned.
Shahba- The Yazidis’ Union held “Çarşema Serê Nîsanê”, also known as “Çarşema Sor” (Red Wednesday) celebrations in Shahba. The Yazidis participating in the celebrations condemned the occupation of Afrin and the attacks on the Kurdistan Region.
One of the celebrations was held in the Meratê village of Shahba’s Ehdas district. The members of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), Kongra Star, and many NGOs also participated in the celebration. Gulê Cafer, a board member of the TEV-DEM made a speech about the meaning and importance of Çarşema Sor.
This year, the Yazidis of Afrin couldn’t celebrate the “Çarşema Serê Nîsanê” festival in their hometown again. Ayşe Sîdo, one of the members of the Afrin Yazidis’ Union, also made a speech. Stating that the Yazidis of Afrin haven’t been celebrating their festival in their hometown for more than four years, Ayşe Sîdo pointed out that the people of Shengal faced another invasion attack while making preparation to celebrate their festival.
After the speeches, Şêx Zehridîn Hesen, one of the religious leaders of the Yazidi community, recited prayers. Then, Çarşema Sor children's musical group took the stage. The celebration ended after the people danced the halay.
