7,020 child soldiers killed in Yemen since 2014
During the war in Yemen from 2014 until the end of 2023, 7,020 children, who were used as soldiers, were killed in Yemen, according to a Yemen’s human rights organization.
News Center- Since September 2014, Yemen has been suffering from conflict, displacing over four million people and killing at least 150,000 people. On Sunday, Yemen’s Mayyun Organization for Human Rights released a report on child soldiers in Yemen to mark the International Day against the use of Child Soldiers, annually observed on February 12.
The report said that the organization had monitored the killing of 7,020 children, who were used as soldiers since the beginning of the Yemeni civil war.
“Since the outbreak of war in Yemen in 2014 and until the end of 2023, the Mayyun Organization has monitored the killing of 7,020 children, who were used as soldiers. The Houthi groups are responsible for recruiting 7,000 children while the forces of the internationally recognized government are responsible for recruiting 20 children,” the report said.
In the report, the Mayyun Organization for Human Rights urged all parties in Yemen, especially the Houthis, to immediately stop recruiting children, demobilize underage recruits, implement UN action plans, and not use them as a cosmetic façade to carry out further violations against children.
