News Center- 47 political prisoners held in the Central Prison of Urmia have been on a hunger strike for days in protesting of being transferred to high-security ward and rights violations in the prison, according to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

The prisoners, who announced their demands through the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, say they have been on the hunger strike to protest their transfer to the new high-security ward where there are not enough facilities and space. According to the KHRN, three political prisoners keep holding their hunger strike in the isolated wards. The KHRN says that the prison administration met with hunger strikers on the second day of the hunger strike; however, the meeting ended without any agreement. “The prisoners are isolated for their thoughts,” the KHRN says.

Stating that the political prisoners are arbitrarily deprived of their rights, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network underlines that the prisoners will keep holding their hunger strike until their demands are met.
