29th Istanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week: We are on the streets
This year’s theme of the 29th Istanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week is “We are on the streets.” More than 50 activities will be organized within the scope of the week.

The 29th Istanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week will start on June 20 with the Hormone Tomato Award Ceremony. Many panels, workshops, and exhibitions will be organized during the week. The Pride March will take place on Saturday, June 26 at 17:00. More than 50 activities are planned to be organized in the week. Most of the activities will go virtual.
Istanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week was organized under the name of “Sexual Liberation Week” for the first time in 1993, and it was banned because of the governor’s office at that time. Many people were taken into custody. Pride Week organizers continued to organize their events, despite the bans against them. Ten years later, the first Pride March was organized in 2003. Dozens of people joined the Pride March held in 2014. Since 2015, the Pride March has been banned by the governor’s office. LGBTI+ people have continued to take to the streets despite bans.
