Under the slogan 'Art speaks when words are silent, together toward an understanding world,' the third autism art exhibition opened today in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan, with children presenting their creative works.
Sulaymaniyah- Participants in the exhibition, including parents of children with autism, stressed the need to enhance government support and specialized care, affirming the positive psychological impact of such activities on children.
Today,Sunday, May 31, the third art exhibition for children with autism was opened in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region under the slogan “Art speaks when words are silent – together toward an understanding world, where children presented their creative works in a remarkable celebratory atmosphere.”
On the sidelines of the events, parents of the children stressed the challenges families face in caring for this group, calling for more support and attention to ensure a more understanding and inclusive environment. Soma Salam, the mother of a child with autism, said: “Autism cases vary from one to another. My husband and I constantly help each other at home to raise our child, and the teachers at the center provide us with a lot of assistance.” She affirmed that opening such exhibitions is psychologically beneficial for children.
She pointed out the positive psychological impact that such exhibitons have on children, affirming that participation in artistic activities gives them space to express themselves and enhances their self-confidence.

Regarding the role of relevant authorities, she expressed her dissatisfaction with the lack of adequate government support for children with autism, calling for serious and continuous attention to them, given their need for special care and ongoing support commensurate with the demands and challenges of their daily lives.
At the same time, Awar Osaman, the mother of another child with autism, pointed to the difficulty of raising them, saying: “I take my child to the center every day. The tasks and efforts that a child with autism make are far greater than those of a typical child. If a typical child learns something for the first time, these children need to repeat it ten times to learn it.”

She explained that the assistance of the Kurdistan Regional Government for this group is insufficient, and that these children need more financial support and development, calling for the continuation of these artistic and social activities because of their positive and direct impact on the children's development.
