Arrest of a woman from Bukan raises fears of a new wave of repression
Security grip tightens in East Kurdistan amid sudden arrests. Iranian authorities detained Bukan citizen, transferring her to an unknown location without explanation, raising fears of a new wave of repression.
News Center – The security escalation by Iranian authorities comes amid a tense political climate, bringing back fears of a new wave of violations against residents, amid official silence that exacerbates public concern about the fate of detainees and their detention conditions.
Eastern Kurdistan regions and several Iranian cities are witnessing an escalation in coercive measures and arbitrary arrests. Security forces arrested a citizen from Bukan and transferred her to an unknown location without any official explanation about the reasons for the arrest, raising fears of a new wave of repression.
According to reports, Esti Mohammadi, 67 years old, was arrested despite suffering from chronic illnesses and needing continuous medical care. Days after her arrest, information about her detention location, health condition, and the details of her case remains unavailable.
To date, security and judicial institutions have provided no explanation for the reasons for Esti Mohammadi's arrest or the charges against her, and her family has not received any clear response from the relevant authorities.
In recent months, parallel to the fragile ceasefire, numerous reports have been published about an increase in summonses, arrests, and pressures on citizens, journalists, women, civil and cultural activists, families seeking justice, and even minors, in various cities in East Kurdistan and Iran.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that the continuation of arrests without transparent judicial warrants, the transfer of detainees to security detention centers, and preventing them from accessing lawyers are examples of violations of citizens' fundamental rights and arbitrary detention.
The security presence in East Kurdistan and several other Iranian cities is expanding as part of the authorities' efforts to limit the continuation of protests and political and civil activities, through tightening judicial and security measures. According to activists and human rights organizations, this approach has led to escalating concern about human rights and civil liberties in Iran.
