“Deterioration of the security situation in Saqqez and warnings of its repercussions on citizens lives”
Recent reports have revealed an escalation of military tensions in Saqqez over a few days. With the increasing deployment of military forces and tightened monitoring of traffic movement fears are rising over the worsening conditions of citizens.
News Center — Security situation in the city of Saqqez is witnessing escalating tension amid ongoing attacks targeting various areas inside Iran, as fears grow over the expansion of the unrest.
Recent reports indicate that the city of Saqqez has seen in recent days a wide deployment of military forces, with checkpoints set up at the city's entrances and increased surveillance measures on the movement of residents. This scene is part of a heightened security state prevailing in most cities of eastern Kurdistan under conditions related to the war.
According to those reports, the deployed forces rely on moving in mobile convoys rather than positioning themselves in fixed bases. They typically station near checkpoints, and if they suspect any unusual activity, these forces stop and search citizens or pursue them when necessary.
Sources also reported that checkpoints at the main entrances of Saqqez are operating with notable activity, and traffic monitoring has increased significantly — a scene observers see as an extension of a similar security pattern witnessed in other cities in eastern Kurdistan.
Ambiguity and Growing Fears
The reports noted that many vehicles used by military forces, whether official or personal, lack license plates or carry concealed plates. This has increased anxiety and uncertainty among citizens. It added that the families of some officials have left the city of Saqqez — a step that, along with the officials themselves remaining in the city, is seen as an indicator of security concerns.
Economic Pressures
Alongside military developments, the city's economic situation has been affected. Although basic goods are available in the market, the daily rise in prices has become one of the most prominent concerns of citizens. Some goods, such as clothing, have seen a noticeable shortage, attributed to disruptions in the production and distribution chain.
In the fuel sector, sharp price fluctuations have been recorded, with gasoline prices on the open market ranging between 1,500 and 3,000 tomans. The amount of fuel allowed per vehicle has been set at 20 liters during peak hours. Nevertheless, reports indicate that electricity supplies continue without interruption.
At the same time, widespread SMS messages containing security and promotional content continue to be sent to citizens' mobile phones. The content of these messages mainly includes claims about military developments and an emphasis on the so-called "sovereignty."
These developments — from the widespread and mobile deployment of military forces to increasing economic pressures, tightened surveillance, and a marked deterioration of the security situation inside the city of Saqqez — reflect a worrying trend. Due to its political location, the city has always been subject to a higher level of oversight and restrictive measures. This escalation has raised growing fears about its repercussions on the daily lives of residents and their basic rights.
